Sumner Chooses Xavier

6’3″ 2014 guard Edmond Sumner out of Detroit has verbally committed to play at Xavier University. According to twitter, the 3 star took an unofficial visit to Xavier last week and clearly thought it was the spot for him to play.

The lightning quick guard has hit a late growth spurt, topping out at over 6’3″. He previously held offers from UMass, Kent State, and Toledo, but Sumner is a much better player than that list of schools insinuates. Sumner has blown up as of late, and like previous Musketeer commits, Xavier was in on Sumner early enough to establish a relationship that could not be broken by future high-major interest.

Sumner is the second player to verbal to Xavier for 2014, joining 4 star Melvin Swift. If Semaj Christon leaves for the NBA after 2013, Xavier would still have 3 scholarships available in the 2014 class with both Swift and Sumner in the fold. The Sumner commitment looks to have no effect on Justin Bibbs, a wing player from 2014.
